Seamless Production Traceability
ArvinMeritor implements the GUARDUS Manufacturing Execution System
The richness of the information at every step of a process chain has great importance in the automotive industry. In order to provide optimal support for complete traceability the global automotive supplier, ArvinMeritor, chose, after an exhaustive selection process, to implement the GUARDUS Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). “Our objective was to find a well-established partner who understands our business and has a deep understanding of quality and production management. GUARDUS is such a partner. Its portfolio contains modules which perfectly match our production processes and our vision for the future”, explains Michael Hartung, Information Technology Director at ArvinMeritor. The software solution, from GUARDUS Solutions AG, allows an exhaustive automated collection of all internal components as well as supplier parts and their all their production parameters. Thus, at every step of the manufacturing chain, all relevant product data is quickly identified and displayed through a mouse click proving the seamless upstream and downstream traceability.
In periods of economic turmoil, the efficient implementation of software solutions may represent a definite advantage, directly adding value to the production chain of an enterprise. The transport industry is a sector where the “right” IT system can significantly contribute to noticeable improvements.
In the initial phase, ArvinMeritor has implemented the Manufacturing Execution System GUARDUS MES in a new production line. Future steps include the implementation of additional functionalities for quality management. The planned upgrade also includes the complete integration of the existing ERP system through which a considerable part of master data will be automatically transferred to GUARDUS MES. Moreover, the MES will automatically provide the ERP system with work order completion confirmations. These steps will make it possible to reduce duplication of data entry by capturing data directly on the production floor and sending information to the appropriate system for a more streamlined overall management system.
